In 1973, the first annual conference of Governors of New England and Premiers was held. Since then, all the members meet to discuss the common interests and share their ideas. You will find a few exceptions in 1991, 1992, 1996 and 2004 when they did not meet as usual to discuss the common issues.
The conference covers all the issues including energy, climate, trade, economic development, fisheries, transportation, tourism, environment, agriculture, and information technology.
This conference is unique and different from any other conferences.
It is related to eleven jurisdictions that are able to build a historic tie to support each other.
In fact, it has achieved a lot in this two and a half decade.
As mentioned earlier, the objective of this conference is to promote a healthy and wealthy world. A few achievements of this conference are the followings.
Almost every year, Canada’s five premiers and New England’s six governors come together to discuss the issues of their region. In the current condition, they discuss more on clean energy and climate change. In the 2000s, they agreed on a regional climate action plan that sets goals for each province and state. In fact, later two states, Connecticut and Massachusetts, converted these plans into laws. The next conference is scheduled to be held on August 12-14, 2018.
